How can Orthotic Sandals help you?

How do Orthotic Sandals help prevent and heal injuries?
As the body lines itself in a more neutral manner, less overall stress and strain is applied
to various structures. If an injury already exists and healing needs assistance, orthotic
sandals can assist in a more harmonious movement pattern of the lower legs with walking,
which can have a positive relationship with the entire body. They can also assist in injury
prevention by allowing efficient muscle recruitment and function with walking. As the feet
pronate (ankles rolling inward), a variety of overuse injuries may occur to the lower leg,
causing further problems up the chain (often as far as the mid-back region). By controlling
excessive pronation through orthotic sandal usage, the body has a more neutral
alignment allowing less wear and tear of the body.  See more detail at

What are Orthotic Sandals?
Orthotic Sandals are corrective devices built into a sandal that allow the feet and ankles
to function in an efficient manner. They are designed to support your foot structure and
keep the alignment of your foot as close to neutral as possible. Our footbeds are made
from ultra-low impact materials that will provide comfort and proper function, allowing the
entire body to have less stress during walking.

Why Orthotic Sandals?
For those of you who already wear orthotics in your closed shoes, you know the positive
impact they have had on your body. But often there is a need for an open toe shoe.
Hence an orthotic sandal with the same type of correction you are wearing already in your
closed shoe. This allows the body to continue it's correction with a sandal as another
shoe option for you. Many people wear sandals either seasonally, year round,  or simply
as a "house shoe".  Orthotic Sandals give you this option with a variety of style types.

Who can recommend Orthotic Sandals?
Due to the medical nature of these devices, we recommend you see a medical practitioner
who is trained in gait analysis, biomechanical orthotics, and the fitting of orthotic sandals.
Medical practitioners include Physicians (primarily Podiatrists, but some general
practitioners may have this area of emphasis, Physical Therapists, and Chiropractors).  A
thorough evaluation should include a gait analysis (watching you walk), an evaluation of
your foot type, and an assessment of past medical history which will indicate your level of
need (degree of correction). See
MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS.

How do I know when to replace my Orthotic Sandals?
Many people have 2 pairs of orhthotic sandals at the same time, which may extend the
wear time.  Assuming you are only wearing 1 pair of orthotic sandals as an adjunct to
other types of shoes, they should last you the same duration of a normal pair of sandals
you own. Keep in mind, most people wear these much more frequently once they see the
benefits, so they may need to be replaced annually. On the thong type sandals ("Surfer"),
the black sole may show wear towards one side. As this occurs, and starts encroaching
on the colored wedge, replacement is appropriate. On other sandal designs this will not
be as noticeable, so depending on sandal usage, annual or every other year replacement
is recommended.

How do I replace my Orthotic Sandals?  or purchase new models?
If you have already been assessed by a medical practitioner and you are ordering the
same degree of correction, you may order from us directly. This is appropriate if you  are
ordering different styles or more of the same style sandals you are currently wearing.  But
if you are ordering a new degree of correction, we ask that you visit your medical
practitioner for verification of this increased correction.  see
SANDALS

Is there a break-in period for Orthotic Sandals?
Yes there is a break-in period and yes this is an important stage.  The body makes big
changes to very small corrections in the foot. Be sure to follow these recommendations for
best results. see
